A letter to lansing residents from the lansing ragbrai executive chair

Dear Members of the Lansing Community,

RAGBRAI is the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa. It is the oldest, largest, and longest multi-day bicycle touring event in the world. The epic eight-day rolling festival of bicycles, music, food, camaraderie, and community garners an incredible amount of media attention and attracts riders from around the world. Lansing has been chosen to be the final stop on this year’s RAGBRAI route on July 30th, 2022. The event will host live bluegrass music, will have food and artisan vendors and a plethora of fun activities for all to enjoy! We welcome you to join us on this wonderful day of celebration.

In preparation for this large-scale event, we will be closing down Main Street to all traffic from the river to 6th Street on July 30th. This will allow our local businesses and vendors to serve the thousands of bicyclists arriving. There will be tables set up in the street for dining. Additionally, there will be a no-parking ordinance from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Main Street from 6th Street to the Sinclair Station just past 7th Street, a no parking ordinances on 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th street from Main to Center Street and a no parking ordinance on the northside of Dodge street and west side of 5th street from Center to Dodge. (See map on reverse side) This will enable us to park the charter buses for easy departure from Lansing and reduce traffic congestion. We appreciate your accommodation of these traffic and parking changes and strongly advise all Lansing residents to park their vehicles off the streets wherever possible.
